Minutes for OpenSim? Progress Meeting 1 October
Present: Johan, Mike, Mariusz, Nigel
Project plan:
* Discussion about project plan and that GC and memory tests with the latest SVN codebase should be conducted first
* Release cycle of
OpenSim? (Nigel)
Meeting with Aron Walsh:
Immersive education initiatives: over 500 participating partners worldwide, 6 nodes of Wonderland already deployed, more
RealXtend? and
OpenSim? nodes to be deployed shortly.
OpenFileFormats? Technical Working Group (OFF.TWG) initiative launched this week. Considerable interest in hardware certifications and performance TWG. Otago, World45 and potential partners will setup a Performance.TWG and affiliate with
Immersive Education efforts for worldwide exposure and promotion of WVs. In terms of performance, Wonderland can currently handle up to 42 concurrent users on a single server. Sun is planning to re-implement from scratch the client stack, and push to about 200 users on a single server towards the end of next year. Interoperability between various VWs vendors (
OpenSim? , Rex, Wonderland etc) is a key issue, although unification of protocols may not happen soon. Unified client that works with any WVs technology is much more urgent initiative, although once the Open File Formats specs are
prepared, some initiatives in unifying the protocols will be carried out.
Meeting with Otago NZ Virtual Worlds working group
Currently 40 registered users, , 3 servers and 3 regions at Otago, plus 10 regions and extra 5 servers provided by Telecom. NZ Telecom got another 6 months funding and "go ahead" with technology evaluations and they are investigating
OpenSim? as a potential technology of choice. Another considerations are with australian based "Exit Reality".
* Financial agreement and formal project agreement to be passed to Kawabe-san.
